not in teh default setup, ldm cares for setting up the environment so
the power manager, screensaver, local devices and sound work ...

did you by chance force the usage of XDMCP by tweaking lts.conf ? 
(note that this is highly insecure, your passwords go in plain text over
the net, ldm has a mode for secure password transport while behaving
identically to XDMCP for the rest, rather use that)
