About HP T5000 on Edubuntu 7.10 and Hardy 8.04

It begs the question do we have any choice in terms of the kernel , if 
we setup the apt.sources to point to 7.10 could we simply install an 
older kernel into the build chroot and still have all the other newer 
hardy features ?
