I usually use dd, but it is easy to make mistakes. I have also used this 
method with complete success:

However, these were for single copies. A friend of mine devised a method 
using scripts and rsync to clone drives in a geometric progression, i.e. 
first one drive to two, then two to four, and so on. Her used this to 
update his school computers.
