Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD) or
with your hardware. Please retry your installation with new media and
if it still fails I'd recommend testing your memory. In the event that
is is not in fact an error with your installation media or hardware
please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

Title:
  Installer crashed during install

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
New to Ubuntu. I've tried installing Netbook 10.10 with no luck and
Desktop 10.10 with no luck. I've downloaded each twice in case there
were problems with the file being corrupted. I've created 2 different
discs and have used two different USB devices to install. Netbook
10.10 never got passed a blinking cursor. The first few times I tried
to install Desktop 10.10 I received this message:

"Installation Failed - This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or
drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to
burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens
(Cleaning kits are often available from electronic supplies), to
check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to
move the system to a cooler environment."

The third time, after trying to install Desktop 10.10 to an external drive, I received this message:

"Installation Failed - The following did not match its source copy on the CD/DVD: /target/usr/bin/smbcacls
This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (Cleaning kits are often available from electronic supplies), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment."

I clicked the retry option and came up with:

"(ERRNO5) Input/Output Error This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk
or drive, or a faulty hard disk.

I don't know what else to do. I've tried installing along side
Windows XP, on a clean hard drive, and on an external drive.
