There is a problem with the backlight control. The hotkeys splashes the
backlight adjust screen and the backlight can be adjusted. The backlight
value also gets updated when a xrandr --props is done. However, there is
no perceptible change on screen. The backlight works perfectly fine in
Windows 7 with which the system is dual-booted.
The os used is Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux 2.6.32-28-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Mon
Jan 10 23:42:43 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux). The hardware is a Gateway
NV59C70u with i5 quadcore 2.67 GHz 64 bit.
Used the /etc/default/grub update of the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset
acpi_backlight=vendor" but nomodeset option makes the screen go blank
just before login. Without the nomodeset option, the backlight hotkeys
are disabled.
Any help is appreciated.
