  Update manager couldn't install downloaded updates

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  An error occurred

  The following details are provided:
  E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. 
  E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

  Ran the required sudo command - seems to have worked without any further ado as follows:
