  update-manager crashed with GError in check_metarelease()

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

  fell asleep, left computer running 16 hours in karmic desktop mode.
  when i came back and clicked on update manger my screen went to some kind of command line interface.
  interface denied me permission and i couldn't find a way to get out of it.
  so i hit alt, control, and delete which restarted my computer.
  i then successfully updated, after which a screen came up requesting i report an update crash.
  everything seems to be working okay at this point.
