This is by design in Oneiric. We now allow regular users in the admin
group to install security updates to make it easier for systems to
remain secure.

Could you confirm you are running Oneiric.

Bug description:
  I just went to update my system--worked, but I didn't have to enter my
  password to allow changes to the system.  I'll include a video of this
  happening next time I see there are available updates.
