Bug description:
  Could not initialise the package information
  There seem to be similar bug reports, but I didn't see this exactly duplicated .....

  An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package
  information.

  Please report this bug for the 'update-manager' package and try to
  include the following error message:

  'E:Problem parsing dependency Depends, E:Error occurred while
  processing ubuntu-vm-builder (NewVersion1), E:Problem with MergeList
  /var/lib/apt/lists/gb.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid-
  updates_universe_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status
  file could not be parsed or opened.'

  Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx
  update-manager:
    Installed: 1:0.134.11

  After error message and following reboot the system loaded into initramfs. Error solved by using recovery mode
