This problem is related to the following upstream bug report:
Bug 662537 - Ext4 unicode labels not shown correctly
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=662537
This problem has been addressed with the following two upstream git commits:
Display ext2/3/4 unicode volume labels properly (#662537)
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gparted/commit/?id=cf8293cf78efe2e2e8b9b74279083c1f986d236e
Display ntfs unicode volume labels properly
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gparted/commit/?id=2ae36153ee52d95799b27bf1b95afde1b94e2b02
The fix for this problem will be included in the next upstream release
of GParted (likely 0.11.0 in December 2011).
