I have found a workaround:
run installer from a commandline with this parameter
ubiquity --no-migration-assistant
I wish that the error message that crashed ubiquity installer displays contained text
"Try running the installer with this option: ubiquity --no-migration-assistant to prevent ubiquity from trying to mount existing partitions"

Title:
The installer crashed when attempting to "migrate data from other
systems"
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I have started install of a freshly downloaded Ubuntu 11/04.
When the installed tried to "migrate my data from other systems" it crashed. Bug report tool crashed too and all I can see is a dialog panel:
"we're sorry, the installer crashed, please file a bug report ...", so I am filling a bug report.
I think that the installer crashed because I have one partition that Ubuntu can not mount.
I have many partitions on this computer, including Windows XP (that I use only very, very seldom), FreeBSD partition, ntfs partition for data, partition with my main Linux distribution (Mint Linux), home partition, swap partition that is shared between my Linux installs , partition where I was attempting to install this Ubuntu and also one partition that is un-accessible from Linux distro. Immediately before crash I have noticed that the installer is trying to mount that partition - /dev/sda2
I can only attach one file here, but the crash dialog panel has asked
me to attach two files. So I have created tar archive. What do you
think, how many users would be able to do that? If the crash dialog
asks user to attach two files, there should be possibility to attach
multiple files here.
