Title:
  UpdateManager.Core.MetaRelease

Status in “update-manager-core” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
if the download fails, nothing is logged or indicated, and this leads to
confusing problems where update-manager 'fails to detect' an update.

Specifically, I was seeing a <urlopen error (-2, 'name or service not
known')>, but I had to modify the try: except: clause to find this out.

As a suggestion, I suggest allowing the error to be stored on an
attribute, so scripts like do-release-update can show it to the user
(and perhaps update-manager could show a [/!\ cannot check for
  updates]).

   affects ubuntu/update-manager-core
