Sorry your report got unattended. I believe update-manager now restores
the original sources.list if it fails. Please feel free to reopen by
marking as "new" if the problem is still present with current versions
of update-manager.

** Changed in: update-manager-core (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid

** Package changed: update-manager-core (Ubuntu) => update-manager
(Ubuntu)

Title:
  do-release-upgrade (7.10 to 8.04) replaces sources.list with target
  distribution even if upgrade confirmation is negative

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 7.10 is going EOL this April 19th.

  When performing distribution upgrade tests (sudo do-release-upgrade) I
  noticed if the upgrade is not confirmed after the first packages
  calculation, the source.list file is no restored to its original state
  and it has the target distribution repositories instead (Hardy's
  instead of Gutsy's). This leaves the system in a state that can not be
  reversd trivially (unless running it under a VM, and having a snapshot
  like I had).
