apport did not work, two problems:
- it started up chromium, even after I changed html assigment to firefox
and changed the default browser to firefox too and restarted the system.
- in the end after starting firefox manually it said the the ntfs-3g has
not been installed.

I remember that I started with Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 3 and upgraded every
time to the current situation, maybe time to do a clean install? And if
so do I get ntfs-3g installed?

the relevant part of the log is:

Title:
ntfs partion on usb drive not mountable for rw

Status in “ntfs-3g” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
A ntfs partition on and usb drive with rw folder/drive permissions can not be mounted rw. Note that the problem occurs on Ubuntu 11.10 on my dual core amd64x2, but not on my old laptop with Lubuntu 11.10 on single core PIII. Both system were updated on 20-Dec-2011.
I have a bypass, I use Windows or Lubuntu, but I would like to get the recently introduced bug in Ubuntu solved.
See the middle part of the next command line excerpt:
