This is not a bug in Ubuntu.  The /etc/default/grub file must be a
properly-formatted shell script fragment; you appear to have local
modifications to it that render it invalid.  For assistance correcting
this file, please see the support forums, such as Ubuntu Forums or Ask
Ubuntu.
