[Bug 909990] [NEW] Update-manager -d bails out with "cannot capture mouse"

Public bug reported:
I am running Oneiric and trying to upgrade to Precise. When I run
update-manager -d I expect it to go ahead and upgrade my computer.
What I get instead is a window telling me that it cannot capture my
mouse. (I forget the exact wording.)
Here are the error messages I got when I last tried to run update-
