GParted uses the libparted library from the Parted project. Both the
GParted GUI and the libparted library were enhanced to handle sector
sizes larger than 512 bytes.

The problem you experienced is contained in the following snippet from
the gparted_details.htm log file:

resize2fs: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to resize /dev/sda2
Please run 'e2fsck -fy /dev/sda2' to fix the filesystem

In the past when I have seen "short read" errors, there has either been
a poor or loose connection between the drive and the computer, or there
have been bad sectors on the drive.

Title:
  can't resize partition

Status in “gparted” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I booted Ubuntu 11.04 from a live-usb and tried to resize my main
ubuntu partitition with Gparted 0.7.0, but for some reason it keeps
failing. I tried turning SwapOff, but that made no difference. After
3 attempts, I'm a bit stumped and would appreciate any help. I've
  attached the detail log.
