For info, having closed the Installer crashed dialogue there was another
dialogue behind it that advised that the installation was complete and
that a restart was required. I clicked OK but I have received a further
dialogue, titled Installation failed, that says that "The installer
encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so
that you may investigate the problem or try installing again."

I have clicked OK and have received a black screen with lots of white
text, including lots of OK's down the right hand side, up to a section
of 9 SQUASHFS errors (whatever they are!!), apparently regarding block
28e83112b, size ac0c

Not sure where to go from here as there is no indication as to what to
do...? I've decided to not press anything and will wait for your
suggestion(s) as I don't want to risk "breaking" something any more than
it already is!!

Title:
  Installer crashed

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

I am trying to install Ubuntu 11.04, in place of Windows XP. I have
encountered an "Installer crashed" error which has advised me to file
a new bug report - it asked me to "include the following detail in
[my] report" but didn't provide any further detail, and also said to
attach the files /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman: but I'm not
sure how to go about doing so.

Any help you can provide will be very gratefully received as the
installation process seemed to have been ongoing for some time so I'm
concerned that, if Ubuntu doesn't work because of the Install crash, I
may be left with no operable OS at all.

  Thanks,
  Luke
