Hi Tobin

swat and how much it integrates into the way Ubuntu/Debian handle
administrator access has been kicking around for a while now - see bug
5608 for more details.

As such I'm going to mark this bug as a duplicate.

Thanks

Title:
SWAT doesn't allow admin login after install

Status in “samba” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After installing ubuntu-server Natty (amd64) with samba file server,
openssh-server, and swat web management package, swat fails to allow
the user to administrate the system. I later discovered that the
permissions of /etc/samba/smb.conf need to have group adm and g+w set
for the default user (created during install) to have access. This
step should be added to the swat post-install. Security shouldn't be
adversely affected by this change, as people in the adm group are by
  nature sudoers any ways.
