Title:
UBUNTU 7.1 ANS 8.04 Fail on install while copying files

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

I have tried installing both 7.10 and 8.04 and got the same probelm both times. I tried installing PC Linux OS into the same space without a similar problem.
The installer gets about 50% through the copying files process and then fails. It suggests either the CD or my Hard disk is at fault (read/write error) but the 7.10 was from a factory produced CD and the 8.04 was from a version burned onto a DVD. So different media, different format (save drive reading). The hard disk has been successfully filled with files as a windows partition previously and formattted OK by the partitioner.

  Last attempt yielded this message:
  Installer Crashed

We're sorry: th einstaller crashed. Please file a new bug at <here>
and a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible. To
help the developers understand what went wrong , include the following
detail in your and attach the files /var/log/syslog and
  var/log/partman.

I had to install PC Linux OS so that I could get a GRUB so I could get access to my Windows installation.
ptn0: is a recovery partition for Windows (2.9gb.
ptn1 is the windows (NTFS) partition (35.6GB),
ptn2 is 32.2 Linux root and
  ptn3 is Linux swap,
  leaving about 800Mb unallocated.

therefore I don't have access to the requested log files. Where would
  I find them, and how?

I REALLY want Ubuntu. IT finds all the hardware etc so much better. So
any guidance would be most welcome.

  Chris.
