Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

  I'm currently on 8.04 LTS and trying to do the upgrade. This happened
  when I first tried to do the update and I got the message 'error
  during commit...' which matched Question #122263 on update-manager in
  ubuntu help. I followed the help posted for that question, did sudo
  apt-get remove... but then got stuck on sudo apt-get update... I got:

  E: Could not get lock  /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
  E: Unable to lock the list directory

  I understand just enough to think that message is significant but
  completely shutting down my computer doesn't make that go away

  any help will be much appreciated!
