Title:
fdisk cannot read partition table on /dev/sda or /dev/sdb
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I need to re-install Ubuntu 11.04 to regain functionally of internal
audio output. Neither the desktop or the alternate install procedures
recognize the old partitions. I have Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04
running on my computer. I have two hard drives with one FAT, three
NTFS, and one EXT4 partitions on the first drive and two NTFS, one
EXT4, and one swap partition on the second drive. Windows XP Disk
Management reports that all partitions are healthy. Ubuntu 11.04
System Testing indicates that drives are working properly. Both
install programs recognize both hard drives and insist that new
partitions must be created. An upgrade of Ubuntu 11.04 is not
allowed because the latest version is already on the computer.
How can I re-install Ubuntu 11.04 without losing my NTFS and EXT4
partitions except for the Ubuntu 11.04 root partition?
