Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal )
:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

Title:
package libx11-dev (not installed) failed to install/upgrade:
corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive
Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I'm not certain what caused this error but I was installing "eclipse integrated development environment" from the "Ubuntu Software Center" and I think it was related to that. The Eclipse package seems to have installed correctly and runs as expected. After the libx11 crash I also got message boxes saying the "items cannot be installed until package catalog is repaired" but clicking repair gives the error "Package Operation Failed." These two messages now appear every time I try to use the Ubuntu Software Center.
This is in Ubuntu Natty Beta1 on Intel hardware running in an Oracle VirtualBox machine.
