Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.

Unfortunately this bug was reported against an old and no longer
supported version of Ubuntu, and contained insufficient information to
let us diagnose and resolve the described error.  Furthermore, the only
commands called by the preinst script of the libpam-modules package are
robust and well-tested tools that don't often suffer from segfaults, and
there have been no other reports of this issue, so it's likely that the
problem you experienced was caused by a local hardware problem and not a
bug in Ubuntu.  I'm therefore closing this bug as invalid as it doesn't
appear there's anything further we can do here.

Please continue to report any other bugs you find in Ubuntu.
