[Bug 767795] Re: [Vostro 130] Installation freezes

I'm running the latest BIOS update (A06) on a Vostro v130, and it
randomly freezes. It makes it through installation, but will randomly
and completely freeze when under high load. It appears to lock up under
high load even when the Atheros network card is disabled via the
hardware switch.

Running under 10.04 did not have these issues; it never locked up even
under high load.

The full steps to reproduce, and the associated symptoms:

1) Start the system, log in to Unity.
2) Put the system under heavy IO load. I've done this using rsync via both the WiFi interface and the wired ethernet interface (the latter with both the WiFi interface active and inactve).
3) After anywhere from five minutes to an hour, the system completely freezes. It is not possible to switch virtual terminals, the system does not respond to any network traffic (ping, SSH), and it is completely unresponsive.

Title:
  [Vostro 130] Installation freezes

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
When installing by PXE boot or by usb, the installer will freeze consistently with natty (beta2 image). The installer will not freeze with the maverick image. The point at which the installer freezes does not seem to be consistent.
