Confirming this issue. I downgraded to the previous working version
2.28.6.

It seems this new 2.29.4 version of glib2.0 is not compatible with the
package glib-networking_2.28.7-1 and libsoup2.4-1_2.34.2-1.

Title:
  No valid active connections found

Status in “glib2.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Upon installing the update from glib2.0 (2.28.8-0ubuntu1) oneiric to
  glib2.0 (2.29.4-0ubuntu1) oneiric

  The system shows you do not have a network connection, even though you
  have one.

  Also the power off (reboot, power-off, logoff) does not work, they
  freeze the system
