Title:
  apt-get purge has stopped working for removed packages

Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: apt

  Example:

  $ sudo apt-get purge compiz-core
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
  The following packages will be REMOVED:
    compiz-core*
  0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
  $

  Note that compiz-core was already removed. If a package is already
  removed, then nothing happens when you apt-get purge it; otherwise, if
  it is installed, then it is correctly removed and purged.
