Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: ubiquity
I was installing Ubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. Windows had
crashed, quite probably due to a virus, and I was using Ubuntu to
recover any files and then planned to make the switch to Linux. After
the installation procedure was close to being done it crashed as it was
"checking for packages to install." I got the following message -
"Installer crashed"
"We're sorry; the installer crashed. Please file a new bug report at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug (do not attach
your details to any existing bug) and a developer will attend to the
problem as soon as possible. To help the developers understand what went
wrong, include the following detail in your bug report, and attach the
files /var/log/syslog/ and /var/log/partman:
The release is 11.04. I tried "apt-cache policy pkgname" and got the
message "Unable to locate package pkgname" and I didn't see an option to
check it in Software Center.
I expected Ubuntu to install successfully but it the installer crashed
instead.
** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
