This seems to be fixed, ardour does show up in Software center 4.0.3 in Natty,  please feel free to reopen if this still happens on your computer.

  In Maverick, searching the software center turned up Ardour. It's not
  listed in there as of up-to-date Natty. apt-cache show still reveals
  it, however:
