Title:
error message when trying to update from ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Received following error message upon attempting to update from Ubuntu
  10.10 to 11.04:

'E:Unable to parse package file /var/lib/apt/lists/fr.archive.ubuntu
  .com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_binary-amd64_Packages (1), E:The package
lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

  release of ubuntu: 10.10

version of update-manager: when I enter 'apt-cache policy update-
manager', I receive the message 'Segmentation fault'. Ubuntu software
  center will no longer run.

what I expected to happen: my system to be updated from 10.10 to 11.04

what happenned: the update stopped and I received the error message
indicated above. I can no longer access update manager or package
manager - each time I attempt to, I receive the same error message.
