Title:
  Jaunty install "import My Documents" does not warn when destination
  partition size < My Documents, causing failed logins post-install

Status in debian-installer:
  Invalid
Status in “migration-assistant” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  When using the "import from My Documents" feature during the Jaunty
  install, I didn't realize that the size of My Documents was greater
  than that of the target /home partition. The install process copied
  over as much as it could into /home, filling it to 100%. Then, on my
  first (and subsequent) login attempt, it comes up with a peculiar
  error about not being able to write to a login-related file in
  /home/<user>. This had me going in circles until I realized that my
  /home partition was full, and upon deletion of some files in /home, I
  was able to login.

  It's not so much a bug as a suggestion for better user experience, as
  there may be other users like me who absentmindedly use the "import My
  Documents" feature. I think the right experience would be a quick
  check: [size of imported files] < [size of partition to import to],
  and warn or not allow the user to use this feature if said condition
  is false.

  <DISCARD>
  I apologize for not including the specific error message related to the failed logins -- this was a few weeks ago and I had reinstalled again since then (this time disabling "import My Documents").
  </DISCARD>

  After going through my history, I was able to find the forum thread
  that helped me in solving this, and the error message I saw. "GDM
  could not write to your authorization file . . . Your Home Directory
  could not be opened for writing."
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=320193. (GDM was trying to
  write to .Xauthority, but the diskapace was full).

  Also, this is my first bug filed, and I'm unsure exactly what package
  this feature relates to, so please do correct the assigned project if
  that is wrong.
