This happened to me too when on a fresh installed system with the latest
updates.

Software-center seemed to start installing chrome after I authanticated,
but then it froze. Then after a while if unfroze but without chrome
being installed and software-center didn't seem to be working with
anything. So I clicked install again and software-center froze just as
before. After unfreezing this time I had two installation processes of
google chrome going on, I canceled the one that was waiting but this
canceled both installations. Chrome did appear in the main menu at this
point though, but software-center still indicated that it hadn't been
installed.

Similar problems happened on another computer with natty too and neither
of them had any problems with maverick so this is a regression.
