Title:
Ubuntu 11.04 installer fails to install grub, then crashes
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Binary package hint: ubiquity
Clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit from Live USB on AMD Athlon 64 X2, 4 GB RAM, 2 x 120 GB SATA HDD (empty) in NVIDIA Stripe RAID.
Tried both installation directly from USB, and booting live USB followed by running "Install Ubuntu 11.04" program from Unity desktop.
In either case, installation progresses to the same point when GRUB installation fails at step "grub-install /dev/mnt/". Setting target drive to "/dev/mapper/nvidia_ciibfabj" also doesn't work. When selecting to continue without a bootloader, the "Installer crashed" message pops up instructing to file this bug report and to attach the syslog and partman files.
1) Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release: 11.04
2) ubiquity:
Installed: 2.6.10
Candidate: 2.6.10
Version table:
*** 2.6.10 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3) Expected installation to finish without problems as it did previously in Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04 LTS.
4) Installation crashed because of failure to install bootloader to NVIDIA RAID Stripe HDD set.
