You probably chose to create an encrypted home directory when installing
Ubuntu.  Then when changing your password, the passphrase to mount your
encrypted home directory was likely not updated.  Try logging into a
text console and see if that provides you with more information.  If you
did in fact create an encrypted home directory when installing Ubuntu
this bugs is likely a duplicate of bug 579876.

Bug description:
  On clen Ubuntu 10.04.2 without updates
  On each startup i get xfce window error "could not update iceauthority file"
  All i did is installe ubutnu and made one user in installation. Then another after install completed and using passwd made shorter passw.
  Also i have 4 antiviruses for linux installed AVG ClamAV Bitdefender & Avast
  Maybe one of them messed up someting.
  But i have other problem also on this user name- bug 788591
