It seems the crash was caused by the fact that the filesystems on your
disks were damaged (if you open the UbiquitySyslog.txt file, you'll see
that many error messages are related to that).
Does running e2fsck manually and then try to install solve the problem?

Title:
installation crashed
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Was trying to newly install Ubuntu 11.10 on the partition which had Ubuntu 10.04 in a non-working state. I tried to upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 3 days ago and the computer shut down while the updates/upgrades were happening. Since then I got the problem : Install Problem ! Gnome power manager faulty or something like that and the computer froze and i could not log in. Hence I burnt a new CD with Ubuntu 11.10 and was planning to reinstall/upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 but the installation crashed.
