The ISO that you actually downloaded is not that of Ubuntu 11.10, but
the first alpha version of Ubuntu 12.04. You probably followed the link
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCDownloads: it was not correctly
titled. I have corrected the mistake and am currently asking the team
that builds Ubuntu releases to create a PowerPC release for Ubuntu
11.10, since it is completely missing from the server.
As for the bug you've experienced, I have noticed that the installer
fails to connect to the mirror site because it does not build the mirror
URL correctly (at least it seems so). I have tagged your bug report so
that it will be noticed by Precise bug testers.
Thanks for your input!
[Note to testers: the relevant log lines are in UbiquitySyslog.txt, they are:
Nov 5 12:40:45 ubuntu choose-mirror[10217]: DEBUG: command: wget -q http://mirror/ubuntu-ports//dists/precise/Release -O - | grep -E '^(Suite|Codename):'
Nov 5 12:40:45 ubuntu choose-mirror[10217]: WARNING **: mirror does not support the specified release (precise)]

Title:
Installation failed because it could not find the Mirrorserver
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I was trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 (it actually says 12.04 LTS /
dont understand why) I got to about 15% of the system install when it
was trying to reach the mirrorserver, (I am connected to internet with
Ethernet cable) and it crashed. Tried it again with the same result.
