Are you proposing that a symlink to a directory should complete to
$LINK/ and not to $LINK as it currently does?

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: base-files

  Tab completion is handled differently if a dir is a symlink from if
  it's a real symlink.  Adding the following to /etc/inputrc fixes this:

   set mark-symlinked-directories on
