On ubuntu 10.04.3 server, tried:

aptitude update
aptitude upgrade
do-release-upgrade -d

Get:

an upgrade from 'lucid' to 'precise' is not suppored with this tool

  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I went into run application and typed in "update-manager -a" and
  follow it from there
