Hi guys.
I have the same problem.
I set my connection via the following script:

ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:C0:26:25:78:A5                
ifconfig eth0 78.90.139.224/24                                   
route add default gw 78.90.139.1                            
echo "nameserver 78.90.139.1" > /etc/resolv.conf          
echo "nameserver 89.190.192.162" >> /etc/resolv.conf 

I could connect to the net, but my Network Manager doesn't see it.
The Software Center doesn't see it as well and behaves as if I was offline :(
