I also get the same error when attempting to install
ubuntu-11.10-alternate-i386 on a Dell Latitude E4200 from USB using
unetbooin, please can somebody share the 'fix' that was released prior
to 11.10 release?

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Text installer log says 
  tasksel: aptitude failed (100)
  Configuring 'pkgsel' failed with error code 1

  And packaged 
  libnewt0.52, ext2-modules, efi-modules doesn't exist 

  After this execution installer crashes and turns back to the Ubuntu
  installer main menu
