Hi Jens,
it seems that the PowerPCDownloads page for Ubuntu 11.10 got fixed once and for all. You can now download a minimal CD, install a very basic version of Ubuntu and download and install the other packages you want later.

As for the original bug, could you please download a "daily" build of
Ubuntu 12.04 from <http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/>, try
to install it in a virtual machine like VirtualBox and see if the
problem occurs again? If yes, please state so and specify the date that
appears next to the ISO file in the "Last modified" column of the
download page. Thanks!

Title:
Installation failed because it could not find the Mirrorserver for
  powerpc

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I was trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 (it actually says 12.04 LTS /
dont understand why) I got to about 15% of the system install when it
was trying to reach the mirrorserver, (I am connected to internet with
Ethernet cable) and it crashed. Tried it again with the same result.
Uploaded a bug report from ubuntu.
