The problem was fixed when I run "apt-get update" today... So its fixed
now. :)

P.S.: Before today whenever I run this command it always gave some
error, which I don't remember now... :-|

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Whenever I run the update manager on my ubuntu 11.10 it just gives the
  following msesage:

  "Could not initialize the package information

  An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
  information.

  Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and
  include the following error message:

  'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with
  MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/in.archive.ubuntu
  .com_ubuntu_dists_oneiric-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en, E:The
  package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'"

  
  Output of the command 'apt-cache policy pkgname':
  "E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
  E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/in.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_oneiric-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en
  E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
