I am using 10.10 and this problem just recently appeared, HP desktop, dual boot Win XP, though I haven't used the Windows much, the problem only recently appeared and I was thinking along the lines of what @
Technomage (technode) posted above:
"Since "/dev/null' is listed as a Virtual Memory Device, could the problem be trying to access virtual memory BEFORE it is mounted?"
Strangely enough the reason I searched this topic was because I
was worried if perhaps I had somehow picked up a Rootkit perhaps,
though I do not use VNC or even any server, and use a 13 digit pw to log
on, but when it at boot up I assumed it was trying to mount a location
that had not been created yet, and because the problem has only
recently started...
So I suppose that makes me paranoid , but like I said earlier this
problem only recently appeared a week ago, or maybe less and now I find
this Bug report and so thought I would post my occurrence of it.
This box (the one with the aforementioned bug( "UDEVD-WORK..../dev/null")) , is running 10.10 Maverick and Has Been with No problems for a few months , Never had this problem until last week, perhaps it Was after an update, as there have been several lately, though I do not remember for sure, but I do not think it appeared at upgrade to 2.6.35-30 and I am almost certain it appeared afterward, like a week ago or so, (I usually would have investigated sooner but things have been hectic lately) , and interestingly enough, my other similar box Very similar, HP same vintage dual boot Win XP, etc, running beside it with 10.10 does Not have the problem, at least not yet...
Both boxes always being updated daily as I apply updates as they are released, and usually check on a daily basis.
If it helps to clarify anything in anyones mind who knows a lot more than me about Unix commands, as most of you on here assuredly do, I built this box from a minimal install, added desktop and X manually from the terminal until I got a GUI or desktop installed, then kept adding until I got what I wanted on here, but I Did install 10.10 on the other box with a live CD that I burned with this box the second go round, found it a tad easier :-)
Did a full install from the CD, Though I feel relatively certain, in my mind at least that the install method is unrelated to this particular occurrence of this "bug" or problem,on my box at least, especially since the problem only appeared for the first time about a few days ago and it had been working great Without it for months, So I am going to keep looking, though I do not know enough.
I just thought I would post this in case it helps anyone to figure it out, and I will check back often to see what has been found regarding this "bug".
