It sounds to me like grub is failing to install on the system for one
reason or another.  It'd be useful to have the log files from ubiquity
after the installation (preferably using 11.10).  You can gather these
by running 'apport-collect 834035' after installing Ubuntu.  Thanks in
advance.

Bug description:
  When installing 10.04 32-bit on this system, it fails to boot from the
  hard drive. The system is unable to recognize a bootable media, but is
  able to boot normally with 10.04 64-bit.
