plymouthd assert failure: *** glibc detected *** /sbin/plymouthd:
corrupted double-linked list: 0x082aa8e8 *** on reboot after a repair
  of broken packages

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: plymouth

Really odd bug this .... I started the machine this morning & wifi
driver failed to init ... there after the touch pad , if touched,
logged me out. Only way to fix this problem was to connect to the net
via ethernet & repair broken packages. this cured the lack of touch
pad & wifi but introduced this bug when running update manager
