@Steve, under bug #839118, you pointed out it was odd that I had a
system with a mountpoint of "none". Perhaps another bug I filed recently
may be related to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks/+bug/865026
As best I can recall, when I started using Ubuntu, with version 8.04, it
was on a dual-boot system with Windows; the NTFS partitions were listed
in /etc/fstab with a mount point of "none". My current computer is a
different computer, but the file systems have a generally similar
configuration: it's a dual boot system, with Windows partitions and
Linux partitions on separate drives. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a
second hard drive, and it listed the NTFS partitions with mount points
of "none". I later created an NTFS partition with a specified mount
point, in order to share files between Linux and Windows. Two other
partitions I specified mount points recently, as a workaround for the
problem in Bug #865026.
I tried commenting out the lines for the partitions that had originally
been assigned mount points of "none", including two which I had assigned
mount points, /mnt/SYSTEM_RESERVED and /mnt/Gateway, and found that the
latter two again appeared in the sidebar in Nautilus, allowing
unprivileged users to mount them.
I also found that moving the swap partition line higher in /etc/fstab
worked, unless it was listed before the partition with the mount point
of "none", as in the attached fstab. In that case, the swap partition is
not mounted.

Title:
Mountall doesn't swapon with 'ignore'-d swap in fstab
Status in “mountall” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Binary package hint: mountall
I use Maverick.
If there are more entrys in fstab with 'none' as mountpoint they
overwrite each other in mountall internal list unless the fstype is
swap. I had 2 swap partitions, one for ubuntu and one for arch, and
changed the latter type to 'ignore' but that overwrote the swap in
mountall as mentioned before, and it was not mounted.
fstab and patch to make new list item also with ignore types attached.
