Some boot logs (/var/logs/syslog, and /var/log/Xorg.0.log or the older
one)  would be helpful to determine what is going on here.

Bug description:
  The LiveCD appeared to operate normally but, after some time, reverted
  to a command line prompt. Entering "startx" produced a normal desktop.
