Title:
System hangs up on shutdown, restart

Status in The Linux Mint Distribution:
  New
Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
System hangs up, both, when booted from DVD or when installed on HD. Mostly desktop freezes. Every so often it goes as far as the following error message:
init: plymouth-upstart-bridge main process (1944) terminated with status 1
  checking for running unattended-upgrades.
My PC is a 2 day old HP G5370 with a 1TB HD that has nothing but Mint 11 installed. I understand I am not the only one with upstart problems of this nature.
