This will happen if you have another application like software center or synaptic open.  Are you still having the problem?

  when i iniciate the update manager or using the apt-get command in
  terminal appears the following message: "'E:Read error - read (5:
  Input/output error), E:The package lists or status file could not be
  parsed or opened.'"
