[Bug 875413] Re: after an unsuccessful upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 (wouldn't boot) I upgraded from 11.10 to 11.04 to save my installations and data and it crashed

Oops, I meant I attempted to "upgrade" from the 11.10 which the computer
thought was now installed back to the 11.04 I started from so that I
could try the real upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 again (I got "to" and
"from" reversed in describing this "upgrade" which was really a
downgrade.

Title:
after an unsuccessful upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 (wouldn't boot) I
upgraded from 11.10 to 11.04 to save my installations and data and it
  crashed

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
got the black screen, flashing cursor upgrading to 11.10, didn't know
what to do, turned off computer, hooked up an old windows computer,
found the answer online to this bug but the computer would no longer
boot from the hard drive. Got a 11.04 install disk and tried to
upgrade to 11.10 from 11.04 while saving my installed programs and
data and the install crashed. I wanted to get back where I started and
try the upgrade to 11.10 again.
